This is a picture of me on one of my proudest days – carrying the Olympic Torch in Richmond for the 2010 games.
This really sums up me in fact. I love to be involved in the community. It is a passion. Whether it be helping on the Richmond Hospital Foundation Executive or my local Rotary Club (Richmond Sunrise Rotary, 20 years service) or coaching my kids when they were younger (Seafair hockey and West Richmond baseball), I have loved every minute of that time.
This does not mean that I have not worked hard at my job as well. After leaving UBC where I was completing a double degree in Economics and Political Science, I opened a successful retail store in Kitsilano before joining the Royal Bank of Canada in the 1980s. I was promoted to the level of bank manager before deciding to join RBC Dominion Securities. Since joining RBC DS, I have continued my education by studying for and receiving various licences and eventually, the designation of Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) – the highest designation in the field. More recently, I have also worked hard to receive my discretionary licence for helping people who are too busy to deal with their investments on a day-to-day basis.
But Bill is not about all work and no play. When there is time off from RBC DS and my charity work, I love to travel and am a sports nut. I have run a number of half-marathons and I play competitively on two hockey teams. I am a Canucks season ticket holder and I am progressing on my goal to visit every major league baseball stadium in the U.S.
