RBC Scholastic Award

The RBC Scholastic Achievement Awards are presented annually to students in the Lambton/Kent market that excel in hockey and academics. This year there are two age categories:

  • Elementary School students (grade 8 and under) and High school students (grade 9 and over) can apply for a $500 RESP courtesy of RBC Dominion Securities and
  • Grade 12 students can apply for a four year $5,000 scholarship to an accredited post secondary institution.

At RBC Financial Group (RBC), we consider our support of education and amateur sport not only to be an investment in communities, but also in Canada’s future. These two RBC Scholastic Achievement Awards are designed to reward both female and male student-athletes in the Lambton-Kent area who have balanced academic achievements with success as a hockey player and contributor to the community.

RBC Scholastic Awards

RBC Dominion Securities in partnership with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board and the Lambton Kent District School Board will provide the RBC Scholastic Awards to six individuals on a bi-monthly basis from September 2007 to February 2007. At the Annual Sting Awards Night, six overall winners (Two AAA Jr. and Four AA/A & MD) will be the recipient of a $500 Registered Education Savings Plan presented by RBC Dominion Securities and RBC Royal Bank.

The recipients will be selected from the Lambton AAA Jr. Sting, Sarnia Hockey Association (AA/A & MD) and Jr. Lady Sting hockey organizations, categorized as follows:

  • Grade 8 and under female player (AA/A)
  • Grade 8 and under male player (AA/A)
  • Grade 9 and over female player (AA/A)
  • Grade 9 and over male player (AA/A)
  • Grade 8 and under player (AAA)
  • Grade 9 and over player (AAA)

Coaches and managers within the hockey associations will receive application packages from league representatives and are asked to distribute this program to players. From that point it will be the responsibility of players to complete the application and seek the cooperation of their principal and respective teachers.

The awards will be based on criteria outlined in the attached application forms and submitted to the Selection Committee either in person or via the Sting Office.

The cut-off date for each bi-monthly period is as follows:

  • September/October –November 15th
  • November/December –January 6th
  • January/February – March 1st

Winners will be notified up to a week prior to the presentation of their award at a Sting home game. The game presentation dates are as follows:

  • November 24, 2007
  • January 11th, 2008
  • March 15th, 2008

Winners are required to submit a copy of their report cards to the Sting Office by no later than April 15th to be eligible to win the overall achievement award for their category.
